JAIL TIME FOR PURCHASING COUNTERFEIT GOODS?

A New York councilwoman, Margaret Chin, introduced a bill proposing jail time or high fines for purchasing counterfeit goods, reported Fashionista.com.

According to the bill, shoppers caught purchasing counterfeits can be charged with fines up to US$1,000 or a year in prison.

However, even if the bill passes, it would be difficult to enforce it, since it would require constant monitoring from the police in order to catch consumers right at the moment of the purchase.
